Massage Modalities: Lymphatic Massage

You can help build your Immune system with Lymphatic Massage. Lymphatic massage, also known as manual lymphatic drainage (MLD), is a gentle technique that stimulates the lymphatic system and offers numerous benefits and is sought after for various reasons. Here are the top reasons people get a lymphatic massage:

1. Post-Surgical Recovery

  • Helps reduce swelling (edema) and fluid retention caused by surgery.

  • Promotes healing of tissues and reduces scar formation.

  • Often recommended after cosmetic surgeries like liposuction, tummy tucks, or facelifts to improve outcomes.

2. Detoxification

  • Stimulates the lymphatic system to flush out toxins and waste products from the body.

  • Supports the body’s natural detox processes, especially after periods of illness, stress, or poor diet.

3. Boosting the Immune System

  • Encourages the movement of lymph, which contains white blood cells that help fight infections.

  • Aids in strengthening the immune response.

4. Reducing Swelling or Lymphedema

  • Alleviates fluid buildup in the limbs or other areas of the body caused by lymphatic blockages.

  • Beneficial for individuals with chronic conditions like lymphedema or after lymph node removal.

5. Relieving Pain and Discomfort

  • Soothes inflammation and reduces discomfort caused by swelling.

  • Can help manage chronic pain conditions like fibromyalgia or rheumatoid arthritis.

6. Skin Health and Appearance

  • Improves circulation, which can enhance the appearance of the skin and reduce puffiness.

  • Helps with acne, rosacea, and other skin conditions by reducing inflammation.

7. Stress Reduction and Relaxation

  • The gentle, rhythmic movements of lymphatic massage are calming and promote deep relaxation.

  • Reduces cortisol levels and improves overall mental well-being.

8. Post-Pregnancy Recovery

  • Helps new mothers recover from swelling or fluid retention common after childbirth.

  • Supports hormonal balance and healing postpartum.

9. Managing Chronic Conditions

  • Assists individuals with chronic conditions such as fibromyalgia and lipedema or autoimmune disorders by reducing inflammation and improving circulation.

10. Weight Loss and Body Contouring Support

  • Encourages the elimination of water retention, helping to define body contours.

  • Often paired with other treatments for body sculpting or weight management.

  • Known to stimulate blood circulation, promoting better oxygenation of cells and tissues. Improved circulation can contribute to overall cardiovascular health.

  • Has analgesic (pain-relieving) properties. It may be applied topically, diluted in a carrier oil, to areas of the body experiencing pain, such as sore muscles or joints.

  • Sage aromatherapy can improve your mood and may be associated with positive feelings through our coaching at PS Traveling Spa

10 ways to celebrate Valentines Day

Learning to love yourself can be a challenge. This guide was created for the unmarried person who needs a reminder - it is absolutely okay to be alone. Learn to show love to yourself first before adding another person to your life. February 14th is ONE DAY that teaches others how you like to be consistently loved and appreciated. Whether you are happily single, anxiously waiting, or engaged, here are some ideas to help you prioritize Self Love routines, boundaries, and create a fulfilling life!

Emotional Care

Write yourself a Love Note! Write at least 3 things you like about yourself on the bathroom mirror and take time to read them once a day. You can use sticky notes or red lipstick! Give yourself a compliment.

Do a Self Reflection. Be honest with characteristics you struggle with and schedule a few sessions with a Licensed Mental Health Therapist to help you process it. Don’t wait until you lose a relationship to deal with the issue. Being able to think freely and process ideas with judgement and bias is freedom, luxury. Don’t skip over this one.

Try a new recipe. Food is always an emotional comfort. I just tried this recipe with Salmon and Garlic Cream Sauce and it was ABSOLUTELY delicious! Left me speechless.

Learn how to make candles at Coco & Shea Lab in Dallas! These luxurious candles are AMAZING!

Plan a Professional Makeup session + Professional Photoshoot. This is a major CONFIDENCE boost - you won’t regret it. Below is a picture from my birthday photoshoot and it was so much fun! (Also, don’t worry about your weight, just take the pictures. You will lose weight when you are ready)

Hair Care

Hair session with a deep detox. Yes, you can wash your own hair, but that takes a lot of time (and my arms get tired, lol). Give your brain a break, remove those extensions, take off the wig and get a deep cleanse and steam treatment. You will feel lighter.

For added Opulence:

  • Dreads/Locks - Add pure orange extract or rose oil during your detox for another level 😍 (follow @locsbydee on TikTok for more tips)

  • Curly/Straight - Buy Oribe! The Hair Alchemy (yellow) is my favorite for my curly hair. The scent has me floating for days afterwards and it makes my hair texture feel so soft!

  • Dry Hair - Ask your stylist about adding a Steam Treatment or visit Dallas and schedule an appointment with Her Mane Therapy

  • I love to add a little peppermint oil directly to my scalp after shampooing! Peppermint oil is so clearing and refreshing (Not recommended if you are pregnant or breastfeeding).

Physical Care

Walking is Self Care! The media is overwhelmed with these gym performances and it can all be too much and a huge distraction! Nature is almost always liberating, just go for a 30 minute walk outside. Healthy lifestyle changes don't have to be dramatic, but an enjoyable adjustment. Be patient with yourself.

Schedule an On-site Massage. Whether you plan a staycation at your favorite hotel or have a space in your home. Schedule a Professional Massage with PS Traveling Spa. This Dallas traveling spa has a reputation for creating the best In-Home experiences so you can just go straight to bed.

Plan an After Hours Bath Session. After hours because your neighbors and family are more than likely to be asleep. Warm baths are always relaxing but you can elevate your experience with my bath recipe below:

  • 2 cups of unscented Epsom Salt

  • ¼ cup of Cold Pressed Coconut Oil

  • 5 drops of Eucalyptus Oil

  • 5 drops of Geranium Oil

This relaxes your muscles, can enhance joint and ligament flexibility, hydrates your skin and calms your mind before bed. Just add some tealight or vanilla candles and you will melt away.

Plan a Solo Trip. Going to Cairns, Australia was one of the best trips I took by myself. I went hiking in the jungle, held a Koala, and enjoyed some true alone time poolside. There is something about taking a break from your daily routine and experiencing another culture.

Happily Single, Waiting, or engaged - BE SURE TO DATE YOURSELF, learn to love you first. Whoever comes along will know just how to treat you.

Cheers!

Robyn

My client got sick during her mobile massage!

Can you believe it? My client was not able to finish their massage?! Here is what happened:

I was halfway through the chair massage when the client needed a break. Of course at PS Traveling Spa we are understanding and we don’t like to rush appointments. Client took a 5-minute break.  We resumed the massage and the client stated, “I’m sorry, I am not going to be able to do it” and we stopped the massage.

Me - “Are you feeling dizzy? Nauseated?

Client - “Yes.”

Me - “Did you drink any alcohol prior to your appointment?”

Client - “Earlier.”

BINGO.

Believe it or not, this is not uncommon. If you drink prior to your appointment, you run the risk of feeling sick, dizzy, and/or nauseous. While we love to help our clients relax and unwind, we do not suggest drinking prior to your massage EVER (there is a reason we don’t offer Brut or Prosecco in our spa event packages).

When a Professional Licensed Massage Therapist works the muscles, we also move the lymphatic fluid and any substance in your bloodstream. Below is a list of things to prepare for your upcoming massage.

  1. Refrain from drinking alcohol (especially excessive amounts)

  2. Wait 4 hours if you have taken any prescription medications.

  3. Take a warm bath (or a hot shower) to help relax the muscles.

  4. Shampoo your hair (your therapist may have time to give you a relaxing scalp massage).

  5. Let your massage therapist know if anything has changed since your last visit.
